Wilma Elmore, age 99, of Texas City, Texas, formerly of Archer City, passed away, Monday, March 9, 2015 in Texas City.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Aulds Funeral Home with Adam Davis, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Private interment will be in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.
Wilma was born December 29, 1915 in Antelope, Jack County, Texas to the late Woody Egrippa Bailey Melissa Dee Dawdy Bailey.
Wilma graduated from Archer City High School in 1932 and then graduated from Howard Payne University in the summer of 1949 with a teaching degree. She began teaching in a small rural school with one student, a boy who was about ten years of age, for four years. Then started her teaching career at the Archer City Independent School where she taught for thirty-two years. Wilma enjoyed teaching and felt that God had called her to teach. She read bible stories, shared in prayer time and said the Pledge of Allegiance every day with her students.
Wilma made a profession of faith at the age of nine and served her Lord Jesus Christ throughout her life.
Wilma married Gordon Elmore in 1951 in Archer City. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1990.
Survivors include son, John Bailey Lasater and wife, Sara of Spring Branch, Texas; brother, Cliff Bailey of Bowie, Texas; six grandchildren, Janna Barton and husband, Luke of Santa Fe, Texas, Liz Lasater and her partner, Patsy Schirmer of Sammamish, Washington, John Bailey Lasater, Jr. of Austin, Matt Lasater and wife, Stacy of Austin, Roger Lasater of Modesto, California, and David Lasater of Fresno, California; six great-grandchildren, Travis Blackwell, John Bailey Lasater, II, Case Daniel Lasater, David Lasater, Jr., Cheyenne Lasater, and B'Lenna Lasater.
She was also preceded in death by son, Pat Lasater on March 6, 2013; sister, Thelma Haston on September 5, 2004; brother, Homer Bailey; daughter-in-law, Karen Lasater; and grandson, Robert Lasater.
