Scotty LaVan Knox, affectionately known as Dodo to his grandchildren, was born March 19, 1935, in Archer City, Texas, to Pauline Hoggins Knox and Hal Knox. On October 17, 2020, at his home in San Angelo, Texas, he left behind a well-worn body for that big oilfield in the sky.

Scotty was a modest man with a big heart, and touched many lives throughout his 85 years. He was headstrong and hard-working by nature, possessed a sharp intellect, gave generously, and loved his family and friends deeply. Always the prankster, he never lost his sense of humor (even playing dead, much to his nurses' dismay!).

Ater losing his father at age nine, Scotty went to work to help the family. His first job was recovering seats at the picture show where he boasted of being paid 25 cents per seat and all the used gum he wanted. Scotty graduated from Archer City High School in 1953, excelling not only in academics, but sports as well. He was ranked All-District Football for three years and Golden Gloves Boxing Champ in the TX-OK District.

Scotty married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Graham, on July 3, 1954. They had 66 hard-earned years together and loved each other to the very end. Together they raised three children as their oilfield migration took them on a tour of Texas, including Wichita Falls, Electra, Hamlin, and Sweetwater. He was a member of First Methodist Church, the Sweetwater Country Club, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Scotty had a long and successful oilfield career that brought about his founding of Knox Oil Field Supply in 1978 and LaVanCo Energy in 1986, which are still operating today. He was well-respected and considered a friend by his employees, customers, and vendors alike.

Scotty's pursuits extended beyond business. He was an avid pilot (with several near misses, but zero crashes), passionate golfer, collector of vintage cars, and loved horse racing. After retirement, Scotty and Patsy toured the country in their giant motor home, making friends and memories everywhere they traveled.

Scotty was predeceased by both of his parents and his brothers, H.P. and Pat Knox. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Knox of San Angelo, and their children: Dana (Bart) Klein of Denver, Dan (Dedra) Knox of San Angelo, and Scott Knox of San Angelo. Scotty will also be greatly missed by his brother Bob (Glenda) Knox of Midland, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Due to current restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date when all of his loved ones can attend. Scotty will be laid to rest with a private family service in Archer City, Texas, on October 20, 2020.
