Richard William Schroeder, age 83, lifelong resident of Windthorst, Texas passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at his residence.

A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst.  Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Moloney, O.F.S. Parochial Administrator of St. Mary's and St. Boniface Catholic Church officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Richard was born March 31, 1934 in Windthorst, Texas to the late Joseph William Schroeder and Lucille Catherine Knabe Schroeder. He graduated from Windthorst High School.

Richard married the love of his life, Rosalee Steinberger, on August 8, 1956 in Windthorst, Texas.

He was an insurance agent for Catholic Life for thirty-five years.  He also was a rancher throughout his life. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.

Richard enjoyed fishing, was an avid reader and a great joke and story teller.  He was a jolly man who loved his family above all else.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalee Schroeder of Windthorst; four daughters, Denise Cooper and husband, Jerry of Lake Travis, Geneva Schroeder and husband, Jim Simpson of Wichita Falls, Tammy Schroeder of Windthorst, Linette Fleitman and husband, Donnie of Windthorst; two sons, Cyril Schroeder and wife, Mary Jo of Windthorst, and Ricky Schroeder of Windthorst; four sisters, Doris Hoffman of Venice, Carolyn Hoelscher and husband, Clarence of Stephenville, Harriet Fischer and husband, Daniel of Olfen, and Patricia Kainer of Sealy; four brothers, Donnie Schroeder and wife, Linda, Joey Schroeder and wife, Gail, Dennis Schroeder, all of Windthorst, and Kenny Schroeder and wife, Carolyn of Archer City; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose Fleitman on May 20, 1998.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Jeremy, Jonathan and Jana Vieth, Josh and Klint Rivard, Mindy, Heath, Halley, Josh, Lance and Nathan Schroeder, and Rick and Jesse Fleitman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Emily, Aiden and Ryan Schroeder.
