Monroe Williams, Jr., age 78, lifelong resident of Archer City, Texas passed away Wednesday morning in the Archer City Nursing Center.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Archer City with Roger Deerinwater, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Aulds Funeral Home.

Monroe was born October 30, 1935 in Mankins, Texas to Monroe Gray Williams, Sr. and Vera Belle Cook Williams.

He graduated from Archer City High School where he played football. Monroe was the President of the Archer City Quarterback Club. He built the canon for the Wildcat Football team and carried it to every game all the way to the State Championship in 1964. He was an avid sports fan.

He and Margaret G. Hill were married August 23, 1965 in Frederick, Oklahoma.

Monroe was the owner and operator of Williams Bit Service for many years. He enjoyed being up in the mountains in Ruidoso where he loved horse racing. He also enjoyed going to the casino and watching the Dallas Cowboys, the Mavericks, and the Texas Rangers.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Archer City; three daughters, Paula Hill Bradley and husband, Jerry, Donna Hill Williams, and Staci Williams Beesinger and husband, Derrel all of Archer City; two sons, Richard Hill and wife, Melanie of Tuttle, Oklahoma and Rodney Williams of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Vera Henson and Rita Jo Jameson of Lakeside, California; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Phillip Hill on September 12, 1988 and Donald Hill October 8, 1994; one grandson, Douglas Hill on October 3, 2003; three sisters, Merle Sewell, Yvonne "Dolly" Packard and Mildred Glasscock; and two brothers, C.R. "Buddy" Williams and Tommy Joe Williams.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Berube, David Bowers, Mickey Mayo, Bill Tyler,Matt Williams, and Michael Wren. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dane Batterton, Kline Mayo, Jackson White and Hudson Williams.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310 or the Archer Service Center, P.O. Box 578, Archer City, Texas 76351.
