Maxie Lee Collins, Sr., age 75, of Electra, Texas passed away October 3, 2014 in the Electra Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Electra with Roger Sanford, Pastor of the Electra Community Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
Maxie was born October 25, 1938 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to the late Bob Collins and Lucy Louise Hill Collins.
He and Jan Gee were married February 18, 1984 in Electra, Texas.
Maxie was a police officer in Wichita Falls and also at Midwestern State University for several years. He moved to Electra in 1972 and was employed at Natco until his retirement in 1999.
In 1986, Maxie started the Punkin Center Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for twenty years. He was a member of the Chuck Wagon Gang and served as a volunteer EMS.
Maxie attended the Electra Community Church. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jan of the home; two sons, Maxie "Sonny" Collins, Jr. and wife, Jo, Kevin Wayne Moerbe and wife, Belinda, all of Electra; four daughters, Tammie Foster and husband, David of Iowa Park, Cathy Smith and husband, Steve, Carolyn Gossett, and Tracey Moerbe Schlegel, all of Electra; one sister, Mary Lufkin of Sulphur Springs; one brother, Troy Collins of Iowa Park; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Collins on October 3, 1993; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Michelle MacMillan on August 6, 2006; two sisters, Jessie Culp and Margie Price.
