Mary Lain Purcell passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born on February 13, 1928, in Cleburne, Texas, the youngest child of J. Lambert Lain and Lorena Lain.

Mary met the love of her life, John Purcell, while attending the University of Texas, and they were married in 1947. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service, raising their three children in Fort Worth, Texas. Mary devoted twenty-nine years to teaching in Fort Worth Public Schools, serving both general education and special education students. Her work reflected her deep compassion, patience, and belief in every child's potential.

After being widowed at the age of 55, Mary embraced the next chapter of her life with courage and grace. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world, ministered to other widows, and treasured time spent with her beloved circle of friends. Wherever she went, Mary carried with her a spirit of encouragement and joy.

Mary was known for her positive attitude, her generous and loving heart, and her unwavering faith. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved John and resting in the presence of her Savior.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Cindy Jones (Ron) of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Cathy Center (Whitney) of Irving, Texas; and son John Purcell (Ruth Shek) of Tel Aviv, Israel. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Tia Kofahl (Drew), and her grandson, Charlie.

A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Archer City, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Mary’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service, and her legacy will continue through the generations she so deeply loved.
