Mary Belle Horn Roach, age 95, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Electra, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Houston.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, in the Electra Memorial Park with her nephew, David Jenkins of Arlington, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
Mary was the fourth of five girls born to the late George James Horn and Susan Patton Spencer Horn on January 6, 1921 in Electra.
She and John Dewey Roach were married December 3, 1938 in Walters, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1993.
Mary was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother. She and Dewey traveled across the United States and enjoyed fishing and camping with her family and the many friends she met throughout her life.
Mary was a faithful Southern Baptist who taught Sunday School for many years and was active in WMU. While in Arlington, she was active in the senior activities including the choir. Although she could not hear the music because of nerve deafness since the age of forty, she had a great time laughing and being with God's people.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth Foster and husband, Claude Cecil; her son, Phil Roach and wife, Linda Lee; one sister, Reba Stroud; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara "Sister" Begeman, Ila Kinard, and Wilma McDonald.
Words that sum up Mary's life: God was the center of her life, the Bible her favorite reading, her home was her castle and her family her crown.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family ask that a donation be sent to Baptist Children's Home, Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211.
