Mary Ruth Dovel Howarton, age 92, life long resident of Electra, Texas passed away Saturday morning, January 22, 2022, in House of Hope in Wichita Falls.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Electra with Pastor Ryan Vanderland and Joe Ainsworth officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.

Mary Ruth was born May 19, 1929 in Davidson, Oklahoma to the late James Edward Moore and Agnes Claire Walsh Moore.

Mary Ruth graduated from Electra High School in 1947 in a class of eight-one students.  After her family started leaving the nest, she went to Midwestern University and graduated in 1970 with a teaching degree.  She began teaching at Dinsmore Elementary School the same year.  She taught second grade for two years and fourth grade for eleven years.  Mary Ruth also taught music and helped with the school productions. She was a member of the National Education Society, the Texas State Teachers Association and the Classroom Teachers' Organization.

Mary Ruth married Robert Eugene Dovel who preceded her in death in 1980.  On December 25, 1983, she married E.E. Howarton in Electra.  He preceded her in death on January 27, 2016.

Mary Ruth was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Electra where she taught an Adult Sunday School class for more than twenty years, sang in the choir and attended W.M.U.  She loved reading and studying the bible.  She also enjoyed dominoes, playing cards and was a soloist at many occasions.

After her retirement, she and her husband, E.E. enjoyed traveling and spending the summers in the cool mountains of New Mexico.

Survivors include her children, Randy Dovel and wife, J'Lyn of Lake Kickapoo, Mark Dovel and wife, Tanda of Aurora, Melody Kisinger and husband, Paul of Seymour, Dosena Moore and husband, Mike of Oklahoma City, and Doak Howarton and wife, Karen of Honduras; sister, Diana Dodson and husband, Larry of Wichita Falls; sister-in-law, Peggy Moore of Electra; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren with two on the way.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Dovel, Jr.; one daughter, Becky Baker; two sisters, Bernice Daniel and Verna Reid and one brother, James Moore.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Josh Baker, Isaac Baker, Bailey Dovel, Chad Dovel, Dewey Dovel, Matthew Dovel, Randall Dovel, Robert Dovel, Andy Marsh and Wayne Marsh.
