Margurite, the fourth of five children, was born in Electra, Texas to Dora Mae Kennedy Jones and Moses James Jones on March 30, 1923.
Margurite graduated from Electra High School in 1941. She worked at the Electra State Bank for a time, then Loudens Studio where she met and later married Spurgeon Edell (Penny) Pennington on September 19, 1948 in Electra. They lived in several towns in Texas before retiring back to Electra in 1975. Margurite went back to work at Electra State Bank and retired again in 1986.
She was active in the First Methodist Church, Hospital Auxiliary, Bible studies and the class of '41 reunions while living in Electra. Margurite had a circle of friends that remained close from high school throughout their lives. They met twice a week for coffee and fellowship whenever they could. Margurite moved to Houston to be near her family in 2009 and these friendships continued, but via the phone rather than at the Dairy Queen or Whistle Stop. While in Houston, she became a member of the Church of Christ in Champions.
Margurite lived life with an attitude of positivity loving her Lord. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren beyond measure and lavished praise on them continually. She was a kind friend to all she came in contact with.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, her four siblings and the love of her life and husband of fifty-four years.
Survivors include son, Gary Randall Pennington and wife Deb of Many, Louisiana; daughter Susan Sammons and husband Don of Tomball, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Snyder and husband Robert of Albany, Texas, Shana Crawford and husband Cory of Fulshear, Texas, Jeff Sammons and wife Meghann of College Station, Texas, Cody Pennington of Houston, Texas, Justin Sammons and wife Julie of Tomball, Texas; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Texas State Library Talking Book Program, 1201 Brazos Street, Austin, Texas 78711-2927 or to your favorite charity.
