Madison Franklin Spencer, age 71, of Archer City, Texas passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, in Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rebecca Grogan officiating. Interment will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

Madison was born March 25, 1944 in Gilmer, Texas to Harry Franklin Spencer and Delorice Lovejoy Spencer.

Madison lived in Wichita Falls from 1951 until 1986 where he graduated from Wichita Falls High School. In 1986, he moved to Lake Kickapoo until September of 2001 when he moved to Archer City.

He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army where he received the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars.

He and Shirley Joy Jones were married on August 24, 1984 in Wichita Falls. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2008.


Madison married Phyllis Bates on September 15, 2009 in Archer City.

Madison had been employed by Gibson's Discount Store, Ray Cannedy Investigations, and IHR as a security guard.

Madison was baptized in 1956. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Archer City. Madison was a very private person, however, he was a good friend to all and enjoyed talking to everyone.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Spencer of Archer City; one son, David Bates and wife, Rene of iowa Park; five grandchildren, Bryce, Brady, Breanna, Lakin and Creed; and one great-granddaughter, Blakely.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Michel Eric Spencer.
