Leonard Smith, age 91, of Electra, Texas went to be with his Lord Sunday, August 11, 2013, in the Electra Health Care Center.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013, in Electra Memorial Park with Nathan Smith of Electra officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
Leonard was born January 23, 1922 in Leonard, Texas to William Calvin Smith and Mary Magdalene Elliott.
He and Lela M. Fitts were married on April 26, 1941 in Frederick, Oklahoma.
Leonard served in the 3rd U.S. Marine Corps at Camp LeJune, South Carolina and in Guam and Chi Chi Jima.
He was employed by the City of Electra for forty-four years and was the Water Superintendent. After his retirement, he worked as a security guard for Dorland Machine Shop and later as an independent plumber for twenty years.
Leonard was an avid sports fan of most every sport and also was an umpire at high school baseball games. He loved playing golf. He was a member of the VFW and longtime member of Bible Baptist Church where he served as trustee for several years.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-two years, Lela of Electra; ; one son, John and wife, Connie of Wichita Falls; one daughter, Sue Smith of Electra; one sister-in-law, Dell Smith of Benbrook, Texas; one grandson, Andy Smith and wife, Amber of Graham, Texas; two-great-granddaughters, Maddie and Abby of Graham; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brother and two sisters.
