Joe Thaggard, age 85, of Electra, Texas passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, in Electra Healthcare.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Electra with Ryan Vanderland, Pastor of the First Baptist Church and Charles Nichols of Bowie, officiating. Interment will follow in Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
Joe was born June 29, 1932 in Harrold, Texas to the late Bill Drake Thaggard and Dona Bell Brown Thaggard.
Joe graduated from Electra High School and then joined the United States Marines where he proudly served his country.
He married Yvonne Pittman on November 23, 1951 in Santa Anna, California.
After his tour of duty, he was the manager of Mac Griffin's Food Store which he later bought and it became Joe's Food Store. He owned and operated the store until his retirement.
Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf and cards. His greatest pleasure was watching his children and grandchildren participating in all sports.
Survivors include his wife Yvonne Thaggard of Electra; two sons, Billy Thaggard and wife, Adrienne of McKinney and Joe Bradley Thaggard and wife, Julie of Altus, Oklahoma; one daughter, Jill Hogue and husband, Scott of Electra; eight grandchildren, Brandt Thaggard and wife, Brecon, Meghan Lloyd and husband, David, Joe Thaggard, Jr. and wife, Cheyenne, River Thaggard, Zachary Thaggard, Heidi Popham and husband, Jake, Bryce Hogue and fiancée, Meredith, and Brady Hogue and wife, Kristen; seven great-grandchildren, Hayden and Brooks Thaggard, Presley and Paige Thaggard, Slade and Lyndie Popham, and James Lloyd; and numerous friends.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, 406 West Garrison, Electra, Texas 76360 Electra healthcare (Nursing Home) or the Senior Citizens Center, 503 West Michigan, Electra, Texas 76360.
