James John Vieth, Sr., age 81, of Windthorst, Texas passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022, in Hospice of Wichita Falls.

Vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst, Texas.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, with Rev. Michael Moloney, Pastor of St. Mary's and St. Boniface Catholic Church, officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

James was born in Windthorst to the late A.P. Vieth and Veronica "Froney" Wolf Vieth on October 1, 1940. James was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Dairy Farmers of America.  In 1971, he established Pecan Oak Dairy and was a dairy farmer throughout his life.  He was named Outstanding Young Dairy Farmer in 1974. James enjoyed attending sporting events, playing cards and dominoes, and riding his Gator while driving around the dairy.

He married Ellen "Nell" Thornton on June 1, 1964, in Windthorst, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2013.

Survivors include two sons, David Vieth and his wife, Karen of Wichita Falls, Texas, and James Vieth, Jr. and his wife, Deana of Windthorst, Texas; two daughters, Cecilia Holt and her husband, Jeff  of Argyle, Texas, and Dawn Vieth of Windthorst, Texas; two brothers; Jerry Vieth and wife, Margie of Windthorst, and Charles Vieth and wife, Joyce of Windthorst; one sister; Bertha Mae Schenk of Scotland; eight grandchildren,  David "D.J", Lena, Mason, Harlee, Landry, Larson, Kylie, and Konnor; and two great-grandchildren, Elliott and Everly.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters; Viola Patrick, Flavia Garner and Janet Moer and his brother, Paul Vieth.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Windthorst Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 162, Windthorst, Texas 76389, Scotland Fire Department,  370 Avenue J, Scotland, Texas 76379, or Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310.
