James Hansard, age 70, of Electra, Texas, passed away Saturday night, May 6, 2023 at his residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.

James was born November 26, 1952 in Memphis, Texas to the late James Finus Hansard and Shirley Dorcas Foster Hansard.

He was a 1972 graduate of Memphis High School.

James and Cindy Hicks were married November 29, 1980 in Memphis, Texas. The couple moved to Electra in 1982.

He worked for Wichita County Precinct Four in the road and bridge department until his retirement.

James loved all things rodeo and enjoyed watching football. He was a longtime member of the Electra Tiger Band Booster Club and Electra Volunteer Fire Department. James loved pestering his children and was known by many as a jokester and the storytelling king. His friends and family called him Big James, but he was Papa Joe to his grandson, Landry.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy of Electra; one daughter, Jaci Hansard of Grandview; one son, Casey Hansard and girlfriend, Amber Ridge of Electra; one grandson, Landry Blayke Roberson of Grandview; two brothers, Mike Hansard and wife, Kaye of Canyon and Dusty Hansard and wife, Karen of Friona; one niece, Callie Cantu; and two nephews, Cade Hansard and Brady Hansard.

He was also preceded in death by one nephew, Eric Hansard in 2014.

The family suggests memorials to Electra Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1148, Electra, Texas 76360.
