Melvin was born on March 15, 1946, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Holliday High School in the Class of 1964.
On June 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Barbara Jo Grubbs. They shared nearly 61 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family.
Melvin dedicated 27 years to the Times Record News, where he was known for his strong work ethic and quiet consistency. After that, he began a new chapter in the oil field industry, a career he deeply loved and took great pride in. One of his proudest accomplishments was founding an oil field company with his sons, a venture that brought his professional and family life together in a meaningful way.
He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed nothing more than hunting and fishing, especially when it meant spending time with his family. Bird hunting was one of his favorite pastimes, and he cherished the memories made on early morning hunts and peaceful days by the water.
Melvin was also known for his sense of humor, often unintentionally making his loved ones laugh by mispronouncing words in the most endearing way. His warmth, wit and down-to-earth nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was a faithful member of Cross Country Church in Holliday and lived a life grounded in love, faith and service to others.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Hoyt Melvin Sissom Sr.; his mother, Willie Beatrice Burge; sisters, Betty Colleen Jeffers and Wanda Ray Twitty; and a baby brother who was stillborn.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Barbara Jo Sissom; sons, Clint Sissom and wife, RuthAnn and Corby Sissom; daughter, Trina Sissom; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Cindy Oliver and husband, Mike; along with several nieces, a nephew, and countless friends.
Melvin was deeply loved and will be missed beyond words. His legacy of faith, family and laughter will live on through all those who were blessed to know him.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310.
