Harvey L. "Pat" Gilbert, 94, passed from this earth on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in Electra, TX.
Services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Electra First United Methodist Church at 10:00 with Rev. Bob Lee officiating followed by Masonic Grave services at Electra Cemetery.
Pat was born on July 19, 1918 on a farm outside Punkin Center, TX to Chas. A. and MaryKemple Gilbert. He was raised along with his four brothers, Doug, Dick, Douge and Pete Gilbert and four sisters, Bessie Eckelkamp, Essie Bell Davis, Juanita Whisnand and Ida June Holland.
He lived around Electra until he finished school and due to Asthma problems, moved to Harlingen, TX with relatives where he lived for 10 yrs. During that time he drove a taxi, was a crane operator and worked on steam drilling rigs which began his oil field career. This led him to the Permian Basin, Skellytown and eventually back to Electra where he worked for Swanson Brothers.He was a driller, pumper and retired in the early '80s. He came out of retirement to work for Bill Dorland for a few more years.
He travelled extensively in his camper visiting 42 states. He was a member of Electra First United Methodist Church and the Electra Masonic Lodge #1067 for 41 years. During his years of service he served as Master of the Lodge in 1979, and as Chaplain for 36 years. He is a Life Member and was presented the prestigious Golden Trowel Award in 1997.
He is preceded in death by wives, Margaret Martin Gilbert and Gladys McDaniel Gilbert.
He is survived by one sister, Ida June Holland and numerous nephews and nieces.
Uncle Pat proclaimed his love for Jesus Christ, and in his last days told everyone he was "going to see Jesus!"
