Gordon was born on August 2, 1937, in Bluegrass, North Dakota, as one of ten children to John and Alma Louisa Permann. He grew up working on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family values.
On September 24, 1965, just three months after their memorable blind date at Six Flags,
Gordon married the love of his life, Carol Reid, in Fort Worth. Their marriage of nearly six decades was marked by mutual support, humor and an enduring love—as he fondly called her " Queenie." Together, they had a beautiful life filled with wonderful memories.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Gordon owned and operated two service stations and
an auto repair center in Fort Worth. His success came from his deep knowledge of cars, his integrity, and the trust he built with his customers. He also collaborated with his beloved mother-in-law, Nola Reid, in the development of Mont Del Plaza, serving the local business community.
Gordon was a devoted family man. Whether coaching his children's sports teams, taking
them on surprise vacations, or teaching them to ski on the lake, he always put his love into
action. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic, often having them work in his gas
stations. Of German descent, Gordon was a man of few words and a strong constitution.
When he spoke, people listened for his dry wit or nuggets of wisdom. He upheld traditional values but balanced them with a big heart and a fun-loving spirit.
Gordon had a passion for sports, particularly golf. A skilled player, his golfing buddies
a affectionately called him "The Great One." In addition to his talents on the golf course,
Gordon was a gifted musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing country and
western tunes, he even performed on the radio in Denver.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Permann of Benbrook; his
daughters, Kelly Permann of Frisco and Tawni Ballinger (Lynn) of Memphis, Tennessee; his son, Shawn Permann (Renee) of Fort Worth; and his seven grandchildren: Brin Bennett (A.J.), Aaron Harper (Abby), Whitney Ballinger, Haley Bullock (Brian), Hall Ballinger (McKenna), Alex Permann (Mari), and Austin Permann.
He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
From a previous marriage, Gordon is survived by his children' Shelley Permann of California, Guy Permann of California and Scott Permann of Florida; and four grandchildren, Alexander Permann, Jenna Permann, Jack Permann and Victoria Permann.
Gordon's legacy is one of love, hard work, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
