Gerald Henry Berend, age 74, of Windthorst, Texas passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Wichita Falls.

Vigil service and rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Lim officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Gerald was born February 23, 1952 in Archer City, Texas to Jerome Julius Berend and Bernadine Catherine Hemmi Berend.

Gerald graduated from Windthorst High School. He served in the Army National Guard for six years.

Gerald married Sherry Wolf on October 21, 1972 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Windthorst.

Gerald was employed by AMPI, DFA and finally Western Dairy Transport for forty-one years as a truck driver until his retirement in 2012.

Gerald liked the simple things in life. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, going in the RV and going to the farm, checking his cattle and wheat. However, his favorite past time was following his grandchildren in all of their sporting events.

He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a fifty year member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry of Windthorst; two sons, Craig Berend and wife, Julie and Doug Berend and wife, Renee, all of Windthorst; one daughter, Erin Green and husband, Brad of Iowa Park; grandchildren, Cason Green, Jenna Green, Ella Berend, Graham Berend, Chris and Meegan Weaver, Sam and Clyde Bryant, great-grandchildren, Aydin Weaver, Calyn Weaver, Maggie Weaver, Clay Bryant and Bryson Bryant; his mother, Bernadine Berend of Windthorst; three brothers, Larry Berend and wife, Carol of Windthorst, Vincent Berend and wife, Rena of Houston, Ronald Berend and wife, Tonya of Windthorst; one sister, Mary Blagg and husband, David of Scotland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
