Fred Ford Maier and Peggy Vee Cargill Maier began their heavenly journey with our Lord and Savior, together, on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at their home in Holliday, Texas.
A joint funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls with Bob McCartney, Pastor of First Baptist Church, and Clint Sissom of Holliday, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bowman Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.
Fred was born October 25, 1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Fred Maier and Annie Effie Ford Maier. He was a 1960 graduate of Holliday High School. Fred then went on to Midwestern State University a degree in Mathematics. Throughout his school years, he was always active in the ROTC Program and played Tuba in the band.
He taught mathematics for Vernon College in Vernon, Texas for several years. Fred then became an electrician and also worked at PPG in maintenance for several years before his retirement. Fred was also a bit of a computer geek and built his own Apple Computer when they first came out. He served as the fire chief of the Holliday Volunteer Fire Department in the 1970s and was active with local historical groups.
Peggy was born October 18, 1947 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late Raif Vernon Cargill and Ethel Olena Helen Nelson Cargill.
She loved Genealogy and was always ready to get on Ancestry.com and research people's families for them, compiling the information in the most unique and elaborate ways. Peggy had beautiful handwriting and made ornate, handmade cards for all occasions. She loved crafting, sewing and painting. Peggy also enjoyed crocheting and made many baby hats and blankets for the hospital to use for all of the stillborn babies.
They were married November 29, 1964 in Crowell, Texas and were looking forward to celebrating sixty years of marriage this month.
Together, Fred and Peggy loved traveling, especially in Europe. They owned the laundry mat in Holliday, farmed and ranched and raised Angora and Spanish Goats. Both Fred and Peggy loved country and western music and dancing. They were also very involved with and held dear to their heart the Wichita Falls Faith Mission, Faith Refuge for battered women and children. Fred and Peggy loved the Lord fiercely and led many others to Christ.
Survivors include their daughter, Julie Sanders and husband, Jeff of Iowa Park; their son, Steven Maier of Abilene; Peggy's brother, Phillip Cargill of Arkansas; Peggy's sister, Trisha Pendergrass and husband, David of Arkansas; two nieces, Joan Cartwright and husband, Mark of Wichita Falls and Diana Davis of Colorado; one nephew Randy Davis and wife, Ruthie of Colorado; Peggy's cousin, Jeannie Huff and husband, John of Arkansas; and their two faithful dogs, Toby and Trixie.
Fred was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marguaritte Davis and her husband, Don and Frances Mackey and her husband, John.
Peggy was also preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Peter Cargill.
The family suggests memorials to Wichita Falls Faith Mission, Faith Refuge, 710 East Hatton Rd., Wichita Falls, Texas 76302.
