On Sunday evening, December 19, 2021, Floyd Wayne Hoggins, 91, of Northern Archer County, joined his parents and sister in Heaven.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 21, 2021 with Lydia Barton Pelican officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.  A visitation will immediately follow at Aulds Funeral Home.

Floyd was born on May 31 st, 1930 to Jewel and TC Hoggins in Archer City, Texas. He graduated from Archer City High School where he played his favorite sport, football.

He married the only love of his life, Helen Martine in Wichita Falls on October 30, 1948.  He joined the Army in 1952 and was stationed in Lawton OK where he was involved in the test firing of the "Atomic Annie" cannon in 1953 in Nevada. After his service, he began working in the oilfield and continued until 1965 when he ran for Archer County Sheriff and won. He was Sheriff for 16 years, Constable for two years, followed by another two-year term as Sheriff.  He returned to pumping his leases until his retirement. He and Helen moved to Northern Archer County in 1996.

His passion, like his dad, was gardening and he shared his vegetables with family, friends, and strangers. His summers were spent in beautiful Angel Fire NM trout fishing in Cimarron Canyon. He also took up golfing and played until breaking his shoulder while, you guessed it, trout fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and TC Hoggins and his sister, Juanita Baird.

He leaves behind his wife of 73 years, Helen; daughter, Rhonda and Brian Hester; the joy of his life, granddaughter Brandi and Kyle Guerry of Knoxville TN; his step-grandson, Keith and Rachel Hester; his favorite baseball pitcher, great-grandson Jackson Guerry; the most beautiful girl in his world, great-granddaughter Grace Guerry; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to sincerely thank Presbyterian Manor and Hospice (especially Ashley) for their compassionate care of Floyd, and suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials in Floyd's name be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Angel Wings of University United Methodist Church.

We were truly blessed and grateful for his 91 years of wit, wisdom, and love.
