Emogene Wagoner Hayers, 99, of Electra, Texas passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in her home.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Electra with Dr. Bob Lee, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Aulds Funeral Home in Electra from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Emogene was born in Los Angeles, California on June 23, 1914 to the late Ruben Hershel and Laura Effie Wagoner. She grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas. A graduate of Wichita Falls High School, Emogene attended Hardin Junior College in Wichita Falls.

She married Carl Edward Hayers in October 1934. Paul Hugh Hayers was born to the couple on December 2, 1942. Blazing a trail for the women in the family to come, Emogene was a working mother, working for Kruger's Jewelry store for 30 years. In 1956, she moved to Electra with her family where she lived the remainder of her life.

Amazing all who knew her, Emogene was an active member of the community well into her nineties. She was a 1976 charter member of the Auxiliary of Electra Memorial Hospital. She was recognized by the Electra Chamber of Commerce as Woman of the Year in 2006. She could be seen driving herself to the grocery store and post office until she was 96. With the help of her devoted caregiver, Cameo Petrik, Emogene was a regular at lunch at the Electra Senior Center until very recently, enjoying food and friends alike. Throughout her life, she enjoyed painting, gardening, and traveling. She loved her family and enjoyed living across the street from her son and daughter-in-law for many years.

Emogene was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hayers; son, Paul Hayers; and brothers, Kenneth Price Wagoner and Robert (Hank) Wagoner. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Jannis Hayers of Electra; granddaughter, Stephanie Hayers Harris and husband, Bill Harris of Paris, Texas; grandson, Chris Hayers of Electra; great-grandsons Ashton Hayers, of Coppell, Texas, Hamilton Hayers of Electra, and William Harris and Colin Harris of Paris, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Electra Memorial Hospital, 1207 South Bailey, Electra, Texas 76360 or the Electra Senior Center, 503 West Michigan, Electra, Texas 76360.
