March 10, 1923 – December 31, 2021
Elwood Loving, age 98, of Archer City, Texas passed away Friday, December 31, 2021, in Hospice of Wichita Falls.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Mikey Pesqueda and David Rater officiating. Interment will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.
The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Aulds Funeral Home.
Elwood, one of twelve children, was born March 10, 1923 in Carroll, Texas to the late Charlie Manuel Loving and Mamie Mabelle Phelps Loving.
He and Margie Mae Smith were married on July 4, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1999.
During World War II, Elwood honorably served his country in the United States Army from August 18, 1944 until June 30, 1946.
Elwood was a member of the Eunice First Baptist Church in New Mexico and the First Baptist Church of Archer City throughout his life. He was employed for Archer County for ten years. However, most of his life was spent in the oilfield where he was an independent pumper.
Elwood loved old cars and was a fantastic mechanic. He was known as "Grandpa Fix It". He could fix anything from plumbing to a broken heart. Elwood enjoyed fishing and playing farkle with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had an immaculate yard and was voted Yard of the Month in Eunice, New Mexico. He also enjoyed gardening. Elwood always had pecan trees and would pick up the pecans and share them with his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Laura Hamill Peden of Archer City; three granddaughters, Carla Scrogum and husband, Kevin of Olney, Anne Post and husband, Steve of Abilene, and Kellie Westbrook and husband, Wesley of Vass, North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews who love him greatly.
Elwood was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Carl Edward Hamill; great-grandson, Carlton Alexander Westbrook and eleven siblings.
