Elsie was born July 24, 1931 to the late August Berend and Eva Wolf Berend in Windthorst, Texas.
Elsie married the love of her life, Marvin Hoff, on April 17, 1948 and celebrated almost seventy-six beautiful years together before his death on August 12, 2023.
Elsie had the biggest heart and most beautiful smile that would light up a room. Her children's and grandchildren's friends were always welcome at her home of their lake house at Arrowhead. Gary brought many army buddies with him when he came home on leave as well. Elsie made everyone feel welcome and at home.
Elsie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Christian Mother's Society. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She and Marvin loved having fish fries and inviting all the family to eat. She enjoyed playing cards and playing games with her grandchildren.
After her children were in school, Elsie went to work at Ed's Café in Windthorst, the Wichita Falls State Hospital, she opened her own little Burger Haven across the street from their house, and then went to work for Lex Graham assembling his calendars. After raising four children and helping her grandchildren when needed, she like to stay busy.
Survivors include one son, Gary Hoff and wife, Kathy Roberts Hoff; two daughters, Jennifer Lindemann and husband, Doug and Paulette Schreiber and husband, Pat; thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie Pickel, Brent and Cindy Hoff, Tracey and Natalie Hoff, Sean and Sarah Hoff, Chad Hoff, Mindy Hoff and Melanie McMahill, Shane and Sara Lindemann, Douglas and Jody Lindemann, Tanya and Sean Choate, Leah and Jeremy Thompson, Carrie and John Carment, and Patrick and Dana Schreiber; thirty great-grandchildren, Jessie, Robyn, Coy, Brenae, Clay, Tyler, Emily, Brayden, Catherine, Meredith, Ashlynn, MacKenley, Garrett, Gracelyn, Gabriella, Makayla, Makenzie, Hunter, Jon, Briar, Laiken, Lex, Emma, Owen, Megan, James, Heidi, Wes, Ben and Max; one great-great grandson, Mack Thurkill; sister, Laura and Jim Spencer; and in-laws, Angie and Ann Berend. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews as well as friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and Dr. Talbert at the Gables at Rolling Meadows. This has been Elsie's home for almost two years and we could not ask for a more pleasant, safer, loving environment for our Mama. Also Hospice Palliative Care saw to all Elsie's medical and health needs as well as being there for any questions the family had. Elsie always had a smile, gave, loved and received smiles and loving words in return by all at Rolling Meadows. We will never doubt that we made the best choice when we chose the Gables for our Mama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310 or Windthorst Volunteer Fire Department DPT, P.O. Box 162, Windthorst, Texas 76389.
