Edward Albert "Ed" Veitenheimer, age 88, of Windthorst, Texas passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at his residence in Amarillo, Texas.
Vigil service and rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst with Rev. Michael Moloney, O.F.S. Parochial Administrator of St. Mary's and St. Boniface Catholic Church, officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.
Ed was born April 7, 1930 to the late Joseph Jacob Veitenheimer and Elizabeth Humpert Veitenheimer in Windthorst, Texas.
He married the love of his life for sixty-one years, Alvina Marie Steinberger, on August 25, 1952 in Windthorst. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2014.
Ed was the owner and operator of Ed's Café for many years. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Windthorst Water board, and was a big supporter of the community of Windthorst.
Ed was known by many as grandpa even if he wasn't their grandpa. He loved big and smiled even bigger when family and friends came to visit.
Survivors include ; three daughters, Vickie Barrett and husband, Dale, Virgie Horn and husband, Jerry, Vinie Wolf and husband, Bill all of Windthorst; four sons, Eddie Veitenheimer and wife, Jo Anne of Deer Creek, Robert A. Veitenheimer of Clay County, Larry Veitenheimer and wife, Cindy of Duncan, Oklahoma, and Joseph Veitenheimer and wife, Sarah of Amarillo; five sisters, Caroline Anderle and husband, Leroy of Lake Arrowhead, Francie Scheffe of Amarillo, Cordella Berend and husband, Alfred Jr. of Windthorst, Adelaide Lentz and husband, Fred of Wichita Falls, and Betty Jo Waters and husband, David of Lake Jackson, Texas; thirty-five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Freddie; one daughter, Vernie Ann; five grandchildren, Ricky Barrett, Duke Veitenheimer, Gary Horn, Sarah Granada and Christopher Veitenheimer; and two brothers, Alphonse and Leon Veitenheimer.
