Donald D Givens gently went to be with his Lord on May 7, 2023 at the still productive age of 96 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Aulds Funeral Home of Electra with his son, Dr. F. Lynwood Givens and Rev. Garry L. Tippit, Pastor of Country Chapel in Wichita Falls, officiating. Interment will follow in Electra Memorial Park under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.

A lifetime resident of Electra, he was born February 8, 1927, to Dale Givens and Lucian (Scales) Givens. He graduated from Electra High School where he lettered in basketball. He attended Lee College, Cleveland, Tennessee and then moved back to Electra. He sang high tenor in three different quartets performing in concerts and on radio, and always sang in church. He was a longtime member of the North Texas Men's Chorus. His father served faithfully as church clerk for 30 years and Donald served as clerk for an additional 28 years. He was choir director for 15 years. He was frequently selected to emcee social, civic, and church events.

He became a Christian at age 14 and remained a Christian all his life.

He served in WW II in the Army Second Armored Division where he drove an ambulance. He was employed at various businesses in the then thriving town of Electra where he delivered dry cleaning, delivered furniture, became a butcher, then a funeral director, and next was employed for 38 years with Mobil Oil Company, from which he retired as a pumper.

At the age of 96 years, he was still living and maintaining his own home, mowing his acre yard, driving to Wichita Falls for dinner at least once per week, playing golf (with a lifetime three holes-in-one), attending church regularly, having absolutely no loss of memory or cognition, and totally enjoying life. He never once met a stranger.

He married his High School sweetheart, Janice Dougherty in 1946 and celebrated 64 years of marriage until her death in 2010. They had two children, Valeta and Lynwood (wife Janice) and subsequently two grandsons, Harrison Givens (Maria) and Nathaniel Givens (Wendy), all of whom cherish his memory.
