Curtis was born October 7, 1948 to Katie Rene Campbell Green and John L. Green in Dallas, Texas.
Early in life, they moved from Dallas to Wilbarger County where during his early childhood years, he attended school in Oklaunion, Texas. He went on to attend Harrell ISD in Harrell, Texas. Throughout this time, he had a talent for playing sports. This range of talent included basketball, track and field, football and baseball. Even though he was exceptional in these sports, he was most prolific in baseball as a pitcher. His love for baseball was supported by family, friends and a dedicated educator and coach, Coach Heck. Family members such as his oldest sister Della Jones and husband, King Jones supported him throughout his college baseball years. He'd often mention how his brother-in-law, King Jones would lend him his new car so he could come to and from college on the weekends. Curtis was offered to sign and play with the professional baseball team, The New York Yankees. He would go on to attend and finish school at Ranger Junior College. He was accepted into Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. At that time, he met the love of his life, Verlene Burris who was in attendance also.
After college, Curtis began his employment with Natco in Electra. He was blessed to be able to work with several family and friends during that time. In 1972, Curtis began working for an oil company by the name of Mobil Pipeline. He started off as a backhoe operator and with his extra ordinary work ethics and skills, he became a gauger. He began this oilfield journey in Punkin Center, Texas. In the early eighties, Curtis was offered an opportunity to work for the same company in Saudi Arabia. His stories of his experience were entertainment for many. Over the years, with his dedication, his employer transferred him to Andrews, Texas in 1992. The company later emerged into Exxon Mobil. On February 2, 2004, he retired from Exxon Mobil. His retirement ceremony was shared with several family and friends in Lubbock, Texas. Throughout those oilfield days, Curtis was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. In 2006, Curtis became employed by Natco, which later changed its company to Cameron in Electra and was an exceptional steel cutter. In 2011, he permanently retired.
Curtis met and became friends with many people near and far. He was a magnet to the crowd, especially during those college years in the dorms. During the mid eighties, he was introduced to golf by a close and dear friend, Benny Reed Jr. Curtis spent many days on the golf course. His hole in one at the Gaines County, Texas Golf Course was a day to remember. He also participated in golf tournaments. Many people came through his life and there were certain people that he spoke about often to his family. They were Benny Reed, Jr., Charles Pryor, Jack Coleman and Al Young who were more like family than friends.
Curtis was an exceptional cook. Family and friends appreciated the pride and time that he took to prepare barbeque and other food dishes. When family and friends gathered for an event, he was sure to be there to entertain and show his love for everyone. The time that he gave to everyone he encountered was the greatest gift he could give.
His love for fishing made his day to be able to fish with his brothers, sister, Rosie McGrew and his aunt, Viola Green. They would often compete with each other and have good times together.
At an early age, Curtis gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He and his wife whom he married on October 22, 1978 had two daughters Sonya and Sunny. As a family, they became devout members of the Oklaunion Baptist Church in Oklaunion, Texas. He became a deacon under the leadership of Rev. Ricky McGee.
