Carlyn Wheeler Parrish, age 71, of Archer City, Texas, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2015, in the Archer City Nursing Center.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City with Jon Curry, Pastor of Grace Community Church in Archer City, officiating. The family requests all those attending to join in a celebration of Carlyn's life immediately following the service at the Archer City American Legion. A private inurnment will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.
Carlyn was born June 15, 1944 to the late Thomas Melvin Wheeler and Ruthie Dell Lowack Wheeler. She attended the Archer City Schools and had operated and managed several food and beverage establishments throughout Texas until returning to Archer City in the early 1980's. She became the manager of the bar at the Ira Jones Post #198 of the American Legion in Archer City until she retired in 1997 with seventeen years of service.
She was a member of American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary and had served as Chaplain for many years. She originated and coordinated the annual Thanksgiving Community Meal each year at the Archer City American Legion. At one point, they were serving over 200 people.
She is survived by one son, Johnny Dale Page, Sr. of Wichita Falls, Texas; three daughters, Cindy Musick, Sherald Denise Lewis, and Leslie Marie Lewis, all of Archer City; one stepson, Gerald Lewis of Dallas, Texas; one former son-in-law, Leonard Smith of Fort Worth; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Because of her generous heart and love for her friends, the family suggests donations to the Patient's Fund at the Archer City Nursing Center, 305 N. Lake Road, Holliday, Texas 76366.
