Billie J. Wright, better known as "Billie Jack", age 95, of Archer City, Texas passed away Wednesday evening, June 20, 2018, in Vista Living of Archer.

Graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018, in the Archer City Cemetery with Roger Deerinwater of Archer City officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Billie Jack was born December 20, 1922 to the late Edward Lloyd Wright and Gertrude Margaret Barker Wright in Bellevue, Texas.

Bill was exceptionally proud of his service to his country.  He joined the Navy in 1941 at the age of 17.  He was attached to the 2 nd Marine Division as a Pharmacist Mate 2d Class.  He saw combat duty in the Pacific Theatre with landings on Tarawa and Saipan, where he was wounded and for which he received a Purple Heart.  He was honorably discharged in June 1945.

He married Edith Joyce Lewis on September 13, 1944 in San Bernadino, California.  She preceded him in death on September 10, 2016.

In 1955, he moved to Archer City and was employed in Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls.

He was a long time member of the American Legion Post 198 where he served as Chaplain.  He also was a member of the First Baptist Church of Archer City.

Survivors include two sons, David Wright and wife, Vicki of Archer City, and Eddie Wright and wife, Jana of Bennington, Vermont; one daughter, Connie Nowell of Corpus Christi, Texas; eight grandchildren, Steven, Staci, Shane, Adam, Michael, Brian, Haley and T; fourteen great-grandchildren, Stori, Grace, Lane, Coby, Lyla, Alyssa, Paislee, Kenlee, Case, William, Joey, Lawson, Parker and Oliver.

He was also preceded in death by son, Ronnie Wright, son-in-law, Joe Nowell, three sisters, Maxine, Harriett and Mildred and one brother, Harold.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310, the American Legion Post 198, P.O. Box 1001, Archer City, Texas 76351 or to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 756, Archer City, Texas 76351.
