Bill Pitts, 74, of Archer City passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in the Archer City Cemetery with Roger Deerinwater officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Bill was born October 22, l946 in the old hospital in Archer City to J.D. Pitts and Cleo Carpenter Pitts. He was a l965 graduate of Archer City High School where he belonged to the National Honor Society and was a proud member of the l964 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL TEAM.  He graduated from Midwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970. During high school and college, Bill worked for Burns Oil Company and became one of Mrs. Burns' favorite yard men.  He worked on several of the original Fantasy of Lights structures.  He served six years in the National Guard and worked as a display manager for Sears and in other retail businesses in Wichita Falls such as S&Q Clothiers, McClurkan's, Dillard's and Gibson's.  Bill and his father had a firewood business for many years, supplying firewood to customers in Archer, Young and Wichita counties.

At sixteen years of age, Bill made a profession of faith and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Archer City.  He gave a lot of credit to his Sunday School teachers, Dale Murphy, Sr. and C. T. McDaniel for their interest in him and his soul salvation. Although not a church attendee, Bill had a spiritual side and often showed his Christian faith by his many random acts of kindness toward others. He had a heart for animals and people down on their luck. Bill had been an avid reader, fisherman and movie goer. He enjoyed his boyhood memories of growing up in Archer City and reunions with his old friends. Even though he sometimes showed his temper, Bill also had a soft spoken gentle side and a quirky sense of humor.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Pitts. Left to cherish his memory are survivors: son, James Pitts; grandchildren, Sadie and Rowdy Pitts of Wichita Falls, and dear friend, Donna Haile of Archer City.
