Bernice Hoegger, age 94, of Scotland, Texas passed away Tuesday night, July 8, 2025, in Hospice of Wichita Falls surrounded by her family.

A vigil service and rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scotland. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Moloney, OFS, Pastor of St. Mary's and St. Boniface Catholic Churches, officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Bernice was born January 20, 1931, to the late Henry William Hilbers and Frances Vieth Hilbers in Archer County.

After finishing 10th grade in Scotland, she completed her high school degree in Windthorst.  She then began a time in her life which she often recalled fondly. A time where she and her sister, best friend and roommate, Dorothy, never missed a day of work or a night of dancing.

After marrying, J.P. "Pete" Hoegger on October 12, 1957, they began building what Bernice would dedicate the remainder of her life to…her family.  Pete preceded her in death on April 15, 1996.

Bernice served as the matriarch and role model of a Christian life of service. Her family and their needs always came before consideration of her own.  If you had to be sick, you wanted it to be at her house.

Bernice was a long-time proud resident of Scotland and enjoyed time spent with friends at Scotland's Senior Citizens. She was devout in her faith and a member of St. Boniface Catholic where she served on the bereavement committee, volunteered time to the upkeep of the cemetery and the counting of the offertory.  She loved to pick up and shell pecans, play dominoes, and watch her hummingbirds.  She was a fantastic cook and took great satisfaction in nurturing the saddest plant into a thriving flowering bush.

Her legacy and life's work include her sons, Steve Hoegger and wife, Helena, Gregg Hoegger and wife, Jackie, and Jeff Hoegger and wife, Missy all of Scotland; daughter, Lisa Herring of Henrietta; brother, Albert Hilbers of Scotland; sister-in-law, Betty Hilbers of Scotland. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Blake, Brenna, Kelly, Jordan, Joe, Mary Margaret, John, Grace, Sam, Amanda, Alex, Mason and Madi; and twenty great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.  All of these will never eat an oatmeal cookie without remembering Bernice.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Teichman and Dorothy McDonald and one brother, Bernard Hilbers.

The family gives our deepest thanks to all of the angels on earth that have so kindly cared for her; especially the nursing staff at Kell West Regional Hospital, Healing Hands Healthcare and Hospice of Wichita Falls as well as Cindy Akers.

Memorials may be made to St. Boniface Scholarship, P.O. Box 230, Windthorst, Texas 76389 or the Scotland Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 103, Scotland, Texas 76379.
