Ardie Oran Wood, age 78, of Windthorst, Texas passed away Friday evening, July 20, 2018, at his residence near Windthorst.

A rosary and vigil service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following at 10:30 a.m. with Father Joseph Lim, USAF Chaplain (retired), and Deacon Don Brown of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating.  Cremation services are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.  His remains will be buried in a private family service in St. Mary's Cemetery in Windthorst at a later time.

Mr. Wood was born December 16, 1939 in Archer City, Texas to the late John Dea Wood and Margaret Ardie Knox Wood. After graduating Archer City High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served for six years.  After his tour of duty, he worked in Washington, D.C., Greenland, Newfoundland, and Ecuador.  He then became employed as a technician at the Naval Space Surveillance Station at Lake Kickapoo in Archer County. Ardie retired in 2010 with thirty-six years of service and served as the manager for the last nineteen of those years.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst.

He and Norma Jean Schneider were married on July 2, 1979, in Windthorst. He had been a resident of Windthorst since that time.

Ardie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by his wife Norma of Windthorst; his daughter, Kay Lynn Wells and her husband Shamus of Ada, Oklahoma;  his son, Matthew of Austin, Texas;  two grandchildren, Dalton Allen Musser and Corbin Lynn Wells;  three sister-in-laws, Juanita Wood of Cement, Oklahoma, Geneva Wood of Archer City, and Melinda Schneider of Windthorst;  and one brother-in-law, Leon Schneider, also of Windthorst.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe D. Wood, Max "Boe" Wood, and Hal Wood.

The family suggests memorials to the Windthorst Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 162, or St. Mary's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 230, both in Windthorst, TX 76389.
