Margaret Berend Schroeder, age 91, of Windthorst, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the home of her birth, The Berend Farm, on Thursday, November 6, 2025.

Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 21st at noon, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst with Reverend Michael Moloney, OFS, officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Margaret was born in Archer County, outside of Windthorst on their homestead, on December 11, 1933 to the late Anton Berend and Eleanor Rose Wachsman Berend.

Margaret raised the eight children she and her husband of twenty-five years, Lawrence L. Schroeder, had together.

She was a 1952 graduate of Windthorst High School. Afterwards she obtained a nursing diploma from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Fort Worth.

She began working as a Registered Nurse at Bethania Hospital in Wichita Falls and then retired from United Regional Health Care System with over fifty-two years of combined service.

Margaret loved travelling, both domestically and internationally.  She enjoyed reading, playing cards and dominoes, including games like Sheepshead and 88.  Margaret volunteered at the food bank and spent countless hours advocating for children in the courts with the Court Appointed Special Advocate, AKA: the CASA organization.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst.  Margaret had a strong sense of ethics and valued God, church and family above all else.

Margaret was survived by three daughters, Janeth Del Toro, Rhydonna Schroeder, DeVon Harvey who is married to Bones Harvey and three sons, John Schroeder who is married to Dawn Schroeder, Damon Schroeder and Kevin Schroeder. Margaret cherished her nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She is survived by two brothers, James Berend, Martin Berend and a sister, Eleanor Pechacek.

Margaret was preceded in death by one daughter, Sabrina Schroeder; and one son, Gregory Schroeder. Siblings that entered eternal rest before Margaret include: Manuel Berend, Emery Berend, Mildred Pennartz, Alma Pennartz, Jerome Berend, Harold Berend, Anton Berend, and George Wray.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials in Margaret's name to Windthorst Volunteer Fire Department, Post Office Box 162, Windthorst, Texas 76389.
